Understanding Incontinence

Managing bladder health is a journey toward reclaiming your daily comfort. Stress incontinence occurs when physical activity like coughing or sneezing puts pressure on the bladder, while urge incontinence involves a sudden, intense need to urinate. Whether you experience one or both, a professional evaluation is the first step toward effective treatment, helping you live with renewed confidence and ease.

Stress Incontinence

Stress incontinence is the leaking of urine that happens without the urge to urinate. Specifically, stress incontinence occurs with stress on the pelvis with activities like coughing, sneezing, laughing or picking up heavy objects.

Stress incontinence is very common and is managed with targeted pelvic exercises and at times surgical intervention.

Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections

UTI.jpg

UTI's can range from simple and bothersome to severe and life threatening with roughly 700,000 deaths per year in American women.    Most UTI’s happen when bacteria that normally lives in the bowel get into the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the bladder) and travels up into the bladder.   The most common bacteria is E. Coli. Because a women’s urethra is short and close to the vagina and anus, women get more UTI’s then men.

UTI symptoms include:  burning or pain with urinating, needing to urinate more often or urgently, passing only small amounts of urine, blood in the urine or pressure/pain in the low belly or bladder.

Treatment options include antibiotics with preventative methods including increased fluid intake, scheduled urination, urinating after sex, natural supplements and estrogen inside the vagina.
